DIISATOGEN n.
A red crystalline nitrogenous substance or artificial production, which by reduction passes directly to indigo.
DIOXINDOL n.
A white, crystalline, nitrogenous substance obtained by the reduction of isatin. It is a member of the indol series; -- hence its name.
DIPYRIDYL n.
A crystalline nitrogenous base, C10H8N2, obtained by the reduction of pyridine.
DIUREIDE n.
One of a series of complex nitrogenous substances regarded as containing two molecules of urea or their radicals, as uric acid or allantoin. Cf. Ureide.

A nitrogenous substance, forming a heavy, sandy powder, white or nearly so. It is a derivative of pyridine.
GLYCOCOLL n.
A crystalline, nitrogenous substance, with a sweet taste, formed from hippuric acid by boiling with hydrochloric acid, and present in bile united with cholic acid. It is also formed from gelatin by decomposition with acids. Chemically, it is amido-acetic acid. Called also glycin, and glycocin.
GLYCOLURIL n.
A white, crystalline, nitrogenous substance, obtained by the reduction of allantoïn.
GLYOXIME n.
A white, crystalline, nitrogenous substance, produced by the action of hydroxylamine on glyoxal, and belonging to the class of oximes; also, any one of a group of substances resembling glyoxime proper, and of which it is a type. See Oxime.
HYALINE n.
The main constituent of the walls of hydatid cysts; a nitrogenous body, which, by decomposition, yields a dextrogyrate sugar, susceptible of alcoholic fermentation. Gamgee.

A white, crystalline, nitrogenous hydrocarbon, C9H9NO, obtained from certain derivatives of cinnamic acid and closely related to quinoline and carbostyril.
HYDROXYLAMINE n.
A nitrogenous, organic base, NH2.OH, resembling ammonia, and produced by a modified reduction of nitric acid. It is usually obtained as a volatile, unstable solution in water. It acts as a strong reducing agent.
HYPOXANTHIN n.
A crystalline, nitrogenous substance, closely related to xanthin and uric acid, widely distributed through the animal body, but especially in muscle tissue; -- called also sarcin, sarkin.
