WINDING n. 4 definitions
A turn or turning; a bend; a curve; flexure; meander; as, the windings of a road or stream. To nurse the saplings tall, and curl the grove With ringlets quaint, and wanton windings wove. Milton.

DRUM WINDING n.
A method of armature winding in which the wire is wound upon the outer surface of a cylinder or drum from end to end of the cylinder; -- distinguished from ring winding, etc.
RING WINDING n.
Armature winding in which the wire is wound round the outer and inner surfaces alternately of an annular or cylindrical core.
SERIES WINDING n.
A winding in which the armature coil and the field-magnet coil are in series with the external circuits; -- opposed to shunt winding. --Se"ries-wound`, a.
