One of the race or people who claim descent from the Saxons, Angles, or other Teutonic tribes who settled in England; a person of English descent in its broadest sense.
APACHES n.
A group of nomadic North American Indians including several tribes native of Arizona, New Mexico, etc.
ARBOR VITAE n.
An evergreen tree of the cypress tribe, genus Thuja. The American species is the T. occidentalis.
ASSAGAI; ASSEGAI n.
A spear used by tribes in South Africa as a missile and for stabbing, a kind of light javelin.
ASTRAGALUS n.
A genus of papilionaceous plants, of the tribe Galegeæ, containing numerous species, two of which are called, in English, milk vetch and licorice vetch. Gum tragacanth is obtained from different oriental species, particularly the A. gummifer and A. verus.
