TARSUS n. 3 definitions
The ankle; the bones or cartilages of the part of the foot between the metatarsus and the leg, consisting in man of seven short bones.
HYPOTARSUS n.
A process on the posterior side of the tarsometatarsus of many birds; the calcaneal process. -- Hy`po*tar"sal, a.
METATARSUS n.
That part of the skeleton of the hind or lower limb between the tarsus and phalanges; metatarse. It consists, in the human foot, of five bones. See Illustration in Appendix.
TARSOMETATARSUS n.
e next the foot in the leg of a bird. It is formed by the union of the distal part of the tarsus with the metatarsus.
TIBIOTARSUS n.
The large bone between the femur and tarsometatarsus in the leg of a bird. It is formed by the union of the proximal part of the tarsus with the tibia.
ACROTARSIUM n.
The instep or front of the tarsus.
ANKLE n.
The joint which connects the foot with the leg; the tarsus. Ankle bone, the bone of the ankle; the astragalus.
ASTRAGALUS n.
The ankle bone, or hock bone; the bone of the tarsus which articulates with the tibia at the ankle.
BOOTED a.
Having an undivided, horny, bootlike covering; -- said of the tarsus of some birds.
CALAMISTRUM n.
A comblike structure on the metatarsus of the hind legs of certain spiders (Ciniflonidæ), used to curl certain fibers in the construction of their webs.

One of the bones of the tarsus which in man, forms the great bone of the heel; -- called also fibulare.

The central, or one of the central, bones of the carpus or or tarsus. In the tarsus of man it is represented by the navicular.

That part of the hind limb between the femur, or thigh, and the ankle, or tarsus; the shank.

The bone of the tarsus, which, in man and most mammals, supports the metatarsals of the fourth and fifth toes.
DRUMSTICK n.
Anything resembling a drumstick in form, as the tibiotarsus, or second joint, of the leg of a fowl.

One of the bones of the tarsus. See Cuneiform.
ENDASPIDEAN a.
Having the anterior scutes extending around the tarsus on the inner side; -- said of certain birds.

One of the bones of the tarsus. See Cuneiform.
FIBULARE n.
The bone or cartilage of the tarsus, which articulates with the fibula, and corresponds to the calcaneum in man and most mammals.
HOCK; HOUGH n.
The joint in the hind limb of quadrupeds between the leg and shank, or tibia and tarsus, and corresponding to the ankle in man.
