SAPPHIRE n. 4 definitions
undum; esp., the blue transparent variety of corundum, highly prized as a gem. of rubies, sapphires, and of pearlés white. Chaucer.

A deep blue variety of iolite, sometimes used as a gem; -- called also saphir d'eau.
