the cud; characterized by chewing again what has been swallowed; of or pertaining to the Ruminantia.
RUMINANTIA n.
A division of Artiodactyla having four stomachs. This division includes the camels, deer, antelopes, goats, sheep, neat cattle, and allies.

In a ruminant manner; by ruminating, or chewing the cud.

Not ruminating; as, a nonruminant animal.

The fourth or digestive stomach of a ruminant, which leads from the third stomach omasum. See Ruminantia.

A calculous concretion found in the intestines of certain ruminant animals (as the wild goat, the gazelle, and the Peruvian llama) formerly regarded as an unfailing antidote for poison, and a certain remedy for eruptive, pestilential, or putrid diseases. Hence: Any antidote or panacea.
