RHIZOPOD n.
One of the Rhizopoda.
RHIZOPODA n.
An extensive class of Protozoa, including those which have pseudopodia, by means of which they move about and take their food. The principal groups are Lobosa (or Amoebea), Helizoa, Radiolaria, and Foraminifera (or Reticularia). See Protozoa.

Of or pertaining to the rhizopods.

An order of Protozoa, allied to the Rhizopoda, and parasitic in other animals, as in the earthworm, lobster, etc. When adult, they have a small, wormlike body inclosing a nucleus, but without external organs; in one of the young stages, they are amoebiform; -- called also Gregarinida, and Gregarinaria.…

An order of fresh-water rhizopods having a more or less globular form, with slender radiating pseudopodia; the sun animalcule.
LOBOSA n.
An order of Rhizopoda, in which the pseudopodia are thick and irregular in form, as in the Amoeba.
MONERA n.
The lowest division of rhizopods, including those which resemble the amoebas, but are destitute of a nucleus.
MYXOPOD n.
A rhizopod or moneran. Also used adjectively; as, a myxopod state.
PROTOPLASTA n.
A division of fresh-water rhizopods including those that have a soft body and delicate branched pseudopodia. The genus Gromia is one of the best-known.

A rhizopod.
RADIOLARIA n.
Order of rhizopods, usually having a siliceous skeleton, or shell, and sometimes radiating spicules. The pseudopodia project from the body like rays. It includes the polycystines. See Polycystina.
RETICULARIA n.
An extensive division of rhizopods in which the pseudopodia are more or less slender and coalesce at certain points, forming irregular meshes. It includes the shelled Foraminifera, together with some groups which lack a true shell.
RETICULOSE a.
Forming a network; characterized by a reticulated sructure. Reticulose rhizopod (Zoöl.), a rhizopod in which the pseudopodia blend together and form irregular meshes.
ROTALITE n.
ssil foraminifer of the genus Rotalia, abundant in the chalk formation. See Illust. under Rhizopod.
SARCOBLAST n.
A minute yellowish body present in the interior of certain rhizopods.
SEPTUM n.
One of the transverse partitions dividing the shell of a mollusk, or of a rhizopod, into several chambers. See Illust. under Nautilus.
