PLECTOGNATHI n.
An order of fishes generally having the maxillary bone united with the premaxillary, and the articular united with the dentary.

BUR FISH n.
A spinose, plectognath fish of the Allantic coast of the United States (esp. Chilo mycterus geometricus) having the power of distending its body with water or air, so as to resemble a chestnut bur; -- called also ball fish, balloon fish, and swellfish.
COWFISH n.
A marine plectognath fish (Ostracoin quadricorne, and allied species), having two projections, like horns, in front; -- called also cuckold, coffer fish, trunkfish.
