A prefix used to signify through, throughout, by, for, or as an intensive as perhaps, by hap or chance; perennial, that lasts throughout the year; perforce, through or by force; perfoliate, perforate; perspicuous, evident throughout or very evident; perplex, literally, to entangle very much.

Having a bottom made of copper, as a tin boiler or other vessel, or sheathed with copper, as a ship.

Faced or covered with copper; as, copper-faced type.

Fastened with copper bolts, as the planks of ships, etc.; as, a copper-fastened ship.

A prefix equivalent to super- or per-; as hyperoxide, or peroxide. [Obs.] See Per-.

A small, insignificant fellow. [Colloq.]

pared with the other ingredients; as in calcium superphosphate. It has been superseded by per-, bi-, di-, acid, etc. (as peroxide, bicarbonate, disulphide, and acid sulphate), which retain the old meanings of super-, but with sharper definition. Cf. Acid, a., Bi-, Di-, and Per-.

um tinctorium, etc. It is a dark blue earthy substance, tasteless and odorless, with a copper-violet luster when rubbed. Indigo does not exist in the plants as such, but is obtained by decomposition of the glycoside indican.
