ORTHORHOMBIC a.
Noting the system of crystallization which has three unequal axes at right angles to each other; trimetric. See Crystallization.
BRACHYDIAGONAL a.
rter diagonal, as of a rhombic prism. Brachydiagonal axis, the shorter lateral axis of an orthorhombic crystal.
BRACHYPINACOID n.
A plane of an orthorhombic crystal which is parallel both to the vertical axis and to the shorter lateral (brachydiagonal) axis.
BROOKITE n.
and hence identical with rutile and octahedrite in composition, but crystallizing in the orthorhombic system.
ENARGITE n.
An iron-black mineral of metallic luster, occurring in small orthorhombic crystals, also massive. It contains sulphur, arsenic, copper, and often silver.
ENSTATITE n.
A mineral of the pyroxene group, orthorhombic in crystallization; often fibrous and massive; color grayish white or greenish. It is a silicate of magnesia with some iron. Bronzite is a ferriferous variety.

An orthorhombic mineral of the pyroxene group, of a grayish or greenish black color, often with a peculiar bronzelike luster (schiller) on the cleavage surface.
LIBETHENITE n.
A mineral of an olive-green color, commonly in orthorhombic crystals. It is a hydrous phosphate of copper.
MACRODOME n.
A dome parallel to the longer lateral axis of an orthorhombic crystal. See Dome, n., 4.
MACROPINACOID n.
One of the two planes of an orthorhombic crystal which are parallel to the vertical and longer lateral (macrodiagonal) axes.
MACROPRISM n.
A prism of an orthorhombic crystal between the macropinacoid and the unit prism; the corresponding pyramids are called macropyramids.
PRISMATIC; PRISMATICAL a.
Same as Orthorhombic. ZOISITE n.
A grayish or whitish mineral occurring in orthorhombic, prismatic crystals, also in columnar masses. It is a silicate of alumina and lime, and is allied to epidote.
