MEROS n. 2 definitions
The plain surface between the channels of a triglyph. [Written also merus.] Weale.
MEROSOME n.
One of the serial segments, or metameres, of which the bodies of vertebrate and articulate animals are composed.
MEROSTOMATA n.
A class of Arthropoda, allied to the Crustacea. It includes the trilobites, Eurypteroidea, and Limuloidea. All are extinct except the horseshoe crabs of the last group. See Limulus.
NUMEROSITY n. 2 definitions

EURYPTEROIDEA n.
An extinct order of Merostomata, of which the genus Eurypterus is the type. They are found only in Paleozoic rocks. [Written also Eurypterida.]
EURYPTERUS n.
A genus of extinct Merostomata, found in Silurian rocks. Some of the species are more than three feet long.
LIMULOIDEA n.
An order of Merostomata, including among living animals the genus Limulus, with various allied fossil genera, mostly of the Carboniferous period. Called also Xiphosura.
LIMULUS n.
The only existing genus of Merostomata. It includes only a few species from the East Indies, and one (Limulus polyphemus) from the Atlantic coast of North America. Called also Molucca crab, king crab, horseshoe crab, and horsefoot.
MERUS n.

NEOCARIDA n.
The modern, or true, Crustacea, as distinguished from the Merostomata.
PALEOCARIDA n.
Same as Merostomata. [Written also Palæocarida.]
