MAXILLIPED n.
One of the mouth appendages of Crustacea, situated next behind the maxillæ. Crabs have three pairs, but many of the lower Crustacea have but one pair of them. Called also jawfoot, and foot jaw.
ENDOPODITE n.
The internal or principal branch of the locomotive appendages of Crustacea. See Maxilliped.
EPIPODITE n.
The outer branch of the legs in certain Crustacea. See Maxilliped.
FLAGELLUM n.
stacean, esp. the terminal ortion of the antennæ and the epipodite of the maxilipeds. See Maxilliped.
GNATHITE n.
one of the mouth appendages of the Arthropoda. They are known as mandibles, maxillæ, and maxillipeds.
