MASTIFF n.
various strains, differing in form and color, and characteristic of different countries. Mastiff bat (Zoöl.) , any bat of the genus Molossus; so called because the face somewhat resembles that of a mastiff.
BANDOG n.
A mastiff or other large and fierce dog, usually kept chained or tied up. The keeper entered leading his bandog, a large bloodhound, tied in a leam, or band, from which he takes his name. Sir W. Scott.
BLOODHOUND n.
same purpose and go by the same name. The Cuban bloodhound is said to be a variety of the mastiff.
