INDICATED a.
Shown; denoted; registered; measured. Indicated power. See Indicated horse power, under Horse power.
ALLA BREVE n.
or four minims, to measure, and sung faster like four crotchets; in quick common time; -- indicated in the time signature by
AMPLITUDE n.
distance of a heavenly body, when on the horizon, from the magnetic east or west point as indicated by the compass. The difference between the magnetic and the true or astronomical amplitude (see 3 above) is the "variation of the compass."
APPOGGIATURA n.
e degree above or below the principal note unless it be of the same harmony; -- generally indicated by a note of smaller size, as in the illustration above. It forms no essential part of the harmony.
BAROMETRIC; BAROMETRICAL a.
Pertaining to the barometer; made or indicated by a barometer; as, barometric changes; barometrical observations.
BASANITE n.
bluish black color. It is employed to test the purity of gold, the amount of alloy being indicated by the color left on the stone when rubbed by the metal.

The power of an acid to unite with one or more atoms or equivalents of a base, as indicated by the number of replaceable hydrogen atoms contained in the acid.

A scale of wind force devised by Sir F. Beaufort, R. N., in 1805, in which the force is indicated by numbers from 0 to 12.

The shank of a type, or the depth of the shank (by which the size is indicated); as, a nonpareil face on an agate body.

A gathering or forming of a storm or squall, indicated by thick, dark clouds.

t of resistances, so called because the balance between the resistances to be measured is indicated by the absence of a current in a certain wire forming a bridge or connection between two points of the apparatus; -- invented by Sir Charles Wheatstone.
CHANDLER n.
A dealer in other commodities, which are indicated by a word prefixed; as, ship chandler, corn chandler.
CHYOMETER n.
f a piston moving in a tube in which is contained the liquid, the quantity expelled being indicated by the graduation upon the piston rod.

he color of a lemon; esp., in alchemy, the state of perfection in the philosopher's stone indicated by its assuming a deep yellow color. Thynne.
