GRAINS n. 2 definitions

KEFIR GRAINS n.
Small hard yellowish aggregations found in the Caucasus region, and containing various yeasts and bacteria. They are used as a ferment in preparing kefir.
ACINACEOUS a.
Containing seeds or stones of grapes, or grains like them.
ACINUS n.
One of the small grains or drupelets which make up some kinds of fruit, as the blackberry, raspberry, etc.
ALBUMEN n.
lants, but not incorporated in the embryo. It is the floury part in corn, wheat, and like grains, the oily part in poppy seeds, the fleshy part in the cocoanut, etc.
ALECTRYOMANCY n.
Divination by means of a cock and grains of corn placed on the letters of the alphabet, the letters being put together in the order in which the grains were eaten. Amer. Cyc.
