COLIN n.
The American quail or bobwhite. The name is also applied to other related species. See Bobwhite.
ARECOLINE; ARECOLIN n.
An oily liquid substance, C8H13O2N, the chief alkaloid of the betel nut, to which the latter owes its anthelmintic action.
ERICOLIN n.
A glucoside found in the bearberry (and others of the Ericaceæ), and extracted as a bitter, yellow, amorphous mass.
FRANCOLIN n.
A spurred partidge of the genus Francolinus and allied genera, of Asia and Africa. The common species (F. vulgaris) was formerly common in southern Europe, but is now nearly restricted to Asia.
LEUCOLINE n.
A nitrogenous organic base from coal tar, and identical with quinoline. Cf. Quinoline.

Any one of several American partridges belonging to Colinus, Callipepla, and allied genera, especially the bobwhite (called Virginia quail, and Maryland quail), and the California quail (Calipepla Californica).
