COCCUS n. 3 definitions
A genus of hemipterous insects, including scale insects, and the cochineal insect (Coccus cacti).
ASCOCOCCUS n.
A form of micrococcus, found in putrid meat infusions, occurring in peculiar masses, each of which is inclosed in a hyaline capsule and contains a large number of spherical micrococci.
CYTOCOCCUS n.
The nucleus of the cytula or parent cell. Hæckel.
DIPLOCOCCUS n.
A form of micrococcus in which cocci are united in a binary manner. See Micrococcus.
ECHINOCOCCUS n.
n the liver and lungs, which often cause death. It is the larval stage of the Tænia echinococcus, a small tapeworm peculiar to the dog.

A vegetable microörganism of the genus Micrococcus, occurring in the secretion in gonorrhea. It is believed by some to constitute the cause of this disease.
