CARIES n.
Ulceration of bone; a process in which bone disintegrates and is carried away piecemeal, as distinguished from necrosis, in which it dies in masses.

CARIOUS a.
Affected with caries; decaying; as, a carious tooth.
DRAM n.
A weight; in Apothecaries' weight, one eighth part of an ounce, or sixty grains; in Avoirdupois weight, one sixteenth part of an ounce, or 27.34375 grains.

A glazed earthen pot or vessel, used by druggists and apothecaries for containing medicines, etc.

SAUBA ANT n.
wo large kinds of workers besides the ordinary ones, and for the immense size of its formicaries. The sauba ant cuts off leaves of plants and carries them into its subterranean nests, and thus often does great damage by defoliating trees and cultivated plants.
