BILIN n.
A name applied to the amorphous or crystalline mass obtained from bile by the action of alcohol and ether. It is composed of a mixture of the sodium salts of the bile acids.

Of, pertaining to, or included by, two lines; as, bilinear coördinates.
BILINGUAL a.
Containing, or consisting of, two languages; expressed in two languages; as, a bilingual inscription; a bilingual dictionary. -- Bi*lin"gual*ly, adv.

Quality of being bilingual. The bilingualism of King's English. Earle.

STERCOBILIN n.
A coloring matter found in the fæces, a product of the alteration of the bile pigments in the intestinal canal, -- identical with hydrobilirubin.
STROBILINE a.
Of or pertaining to a strobile; strobilaceous; strobiliform; as, strobiline fruits.
UROBILIN n.
A yellow pigment identical with hydrobilirubin, abundant in the highly colored urine of fever, and also present in normal urine. See Urochrome.
DIGLOTTISM n.

HAKE n.
llies. The common European hake is M. vulgaris; the American silver hake or whiting is M. bilinearis. Two American species (Phycis chuss and P. tenius) are important food fishes, and are also valued for their oil and sounds. Called also squirrel hake, and codling.
HYDROBILIRUBIN n.
A body formed from bilirubin, identical with urobilin.
PIGMENT n.
the colored substances found in animal and vegetable tissues and fluids, as bilirubin, urobilin, chlorophyll, etc.
SOLE n.
omewhat resembling the true sole in form or quality, as the California sole (Lepidopsetta bilineata), the long-finned sole (Glyptocephalus zachirus), and other species. Lemon, or French, sole (Zoöl.), a European species of sole (Solea pegusa). -- Smooth sole (Zoöl.), the megrim.
URINARY a.
ney. -- Urinary pigments, (Physiol. Chem.), certain colored substances, urochrome, or urobilin, uroerythrin, etc., present in the urine together with indican, a colorless substance which by oxidation is convertible into colored bodies.
UROCHROME n.
as the only pigment present in normal urine. It is regarded by Maly as identical with urobilin.
UROHAEMATIN n.
ly or indirectly (through bilirubin) from the hæmatin of the blood. See Urochrome, and Urobilin.
