ARACHNIDA n.
One of the classes of Arthropoda. See Illustration in Appendix.
ARACHNIDAN n.
One of the Arachnida.
ACARINA n.
The group of Arachnida which includes the mites and ticks. Many species are parasitic, and cause diseases like the itch and mange.

CHELA n.
The pincherlike claw of Crustacea and Arachnida.
CHELICERA n.
anterior pair of mouth organs, terminated by a pincherlike claw, in scorpions and allied Arachnida. They are homologous with the falcers of spiders, and probably with the mandibles of insects.
DADDY LONGLEGS n.
An arachnidan of the genus Phalangium, and allied genera, having a small body and four pairs of long legs; -- called also harvestman, carter, and grandfather longlegs.
OCTOPODA n.
Same as Arachnida.
PEDIPALPI n.
A division of Arachnida, including the whip scorpions (Thelyphonus) and allied forms. Sometimes used in a wider sense to include also the true scorpions.
TETRAPNEUMONA n.
A division of Arachnida including those spiders which have four lungs, or pulmonary sacs. It includes the bird spiders (Mygale) and the trapdoor spiders. See Mygale.
TRACHEARIA n.
A division of Arachnida including those that breathe only by means of tracheæ. It includes the mites, ticks, false scorpions, and harvestmen.
