APPARATUS n. 3 definitions
A collection of organs all of which unite in a common function; as, the respiratory apparatus.
BUFFING APPARATUS n.

ACCELEROGRAPH n.
An apparatus for studying the combustion of powder in guns, etc.
ACCELEROMETER n.
An apparatus for measuring the velocity imparted by gunpowder.
ACCUMULATOR n.
An apparatus by means of which energy or power can be stored, such as the cylinder or tank for storing water for hydraulic elevators, the secondary or storage battery used for accumulating the energy of electrical charges, etc.
ACETIFIER n.
An apparatus for hastening acetification. Knight.
ACTINOPHONE n.
An apparatus for the production of sound by the action of the actinic, or ultraviolet, rays.
AEOLIPILE; AEOLIPYLE n.
An apparatus consisting chiefly of a closed vessel (as a globe or cylinder) with one or more projecting bent tubes, through which steam is made to pass from the vessel, causing it to revolve. [Written also eolipile.]
