ANTHOZOA n.
The class of the Coelenterata which includes the corals and sea anemones. The three principal groups or orders are Acyonaria, Actinaria, and Madreporaria.

ACTINARIA n.
A large division of Anthozoa, including those which have simple tentacles and do not form stony corals. Sometimes, in a wider sense, applied to all the Anthozoa, expert the Alcyonaria, whether forming corals or not.
ACTINIA n.
An animal of the class Anthozoa, and family Actinidæ. From a resemblance to flowers in form and color, they are often called animal flowers and sea anemones. [See Polyp.].
ACTINOZOA n.
A group of Coelenterata, comprising the Anthozoa Ctenophora. The sea anemone, or actinia, is a familiar example.
ALCYONARIA n.
One of the orders of Anthozoa. It includes the Alcyonacea, Pennatulacea, and Gorgonacea.

COELENTERA; COELENTERATA n.
A comprehensive group of Invertebrata, mostly marine, comprising the Anthozoa, Hydrozoa, and Ctenophora. The name implies that the stomach and body cavities are one. The group is sometimes enlarged so as to include the sponges.
COENENCHYM; COENENCHYMA n.
The common tissue which unites the polyps or zooids of a compound anthozoan or coral. It may be soft or more or less ossified. See Coral.
CORAL n.
The hard parts or skeleton of various Anthozoa, and of a few Hydrozoa. Similar structures are also formed by some Bryozoa.
CORALLIGENA n.
Same as Anthozoa.
GONIDIUM n.
A special groove or furrow at one or both angles of the mouth of many Anthozoa.
HELIANTHOIDEA n.
An order of Anthozoa; the Actinaria.
HEXACTINIA n.
The Anthozoa.
LOCULUS n.
One of the spaces between the septa in the Anthozoa.
MADREPORARIA n.
An extensive division of Anthozoa, including most of the species that produce stony corals. See Illust. of Anthozoa. -- Mad`re*po*ra"ri*an, a. & n.
MESENTERY n.
One of the vertical muscular radiating partitions which divide the body cavity of Anthozoa into chambers.
MILLEPORE n.
