AMPHIBOLE n.
nite, hornblende (the last name being also used as a general term for the whole species). Amphibole is a constituent of many crystalline rocks, as syenite, diorite, most varieties of trachyte, etc. See Hornblende.
ACTINOLITE n.
A bright green variety of amphibole occurring usually in fibrous or columnar masses.
AMPHIBOLIC a.
Of or resembling the mineral amphibole.
ASBESTUS; ASBESTOS n.
A variety of amphibole or of pyroxene, occurring in long and delicate fibers, or in fibrous masses or seams, usually of a white, gray, or green-gray color. The name is also given to a similar variety of serpentine.

A white variety of amphibole, or hornblende, occurring in long, bladelike crystals, and coarsely fibrous masses.
URALITE n.
Amphibole resulting from the alternation of pyroxene by paramorphism. It is not uncommon in massive eruptive rocks.

The change of pyroxene to amphibole by paramorphism.
