ALPINE a. 2 definitions
Of or pertaining to the Alps, or to any lofty mountain; as, Alpine snows; Alpine plants.
CISALPINE a.
e Alps with reference to Rome, that is, on the south side of the Alps; -- opposed to transalpine.

Inhabiting the somewhat high slopes and summits of mountains, but considerably below the snow line.
