ANNEALING n.
glass, iron, etc., less brittle, performed by allowing them to cool very gradually from a high heat.
ANTEMURAL n.
An outwork of a strong, high wall, with turrets, in front gateway (as of an old castle), for defending the entrance.
ANTHRACITE n.
A hard, compact variety of mineral coal, of high luster, differing from bituminous coal in containing little or no bitumen, in consequence of which it burns with a nearly non luminous flame. The purer specimens consist almost wholly of carbon. Also called glance coal and blind coal.
ANTIMONIC a.
ived from, antimony; -- said of those compounds of antimony in which this element has its highest equivalence; as, antimonic acid.
ANTIMONIOUS a.
those compounds of antimony in which this element has an equivalence next lower than the highest; as, antimonious acid.
