DELPHINUS n.
A genus of Cetacea, including the dolphin. See Dolphin,
DENTICETE n.
The division of Cetacea in which the teeth are developed, including the sperm whale, dolphins, etc.
DILDO n.
A columnar cactaceous plant of the West Indies (Cereus Swartzii).
DOLPHIN n.
A cetacean of the genus Delphinus and allied genera (esp. D. delphis); the true dolphin.
ECBALLIUM n.
A genus of cucurbitaceous plants consisting of the single species Ecballium agreste (or Elaterium), the squirting cucumber. Its fruit, when ripe, bursts and violently ejects its seeds, together with a mucilaginous juice, from which elaterium, a powerful cathartic medicine, is prepared.
EDRIOPHTHALMA n.
A group of Crustacea in which the eyes are without stalks; the Arthrostraca. [Written also Edriophthalmata.]

The part of each apodeme derived from the intersternal membrane in Crustacea and insects.
ENDOSTOMA n.
A plate which supports the labrum in certain Crustacea.
ENTOMOSTRACA n.
One of the subclasses of Crustacea, including a large number of species, many of them minute. The group embraces several orders; as the Phyllopoda, Ostracoda, Copepoda, and Pectostraca. See Copepoda, Phyllopoda, and Cladocera.
EPICARICAN n.
An isopod crustacean, parasitic on shrimps.
EPIMERON n.
In crustaceans: The part of the side of a somite external to the basal joint of each appendage. See Illust. under Crustacea.
EPIPHYLLUM n.
A genus of cactaceous plants having flattened, jointed stems, and petals united in a tube. The flowers are very showy, and several species are in cultivation.
EPIPODITE n.
The outer branch of the legs in certain Crustacea. See Maxilliped.
