BARYSPHERE n.
The heavy interior portion of the earth, within the lithosphere.
BAS-RELIEF n.
Low relief; sculpture, the figures of which project less than half of their true proportions; -- called also bassrelief and basso- rilievo. See Alto-rilievo.
BASIC a.
s, or the amount of the base atomically greater than that of the acid, or exceeding in proportion that of the related neutral salt.

Of an unusual make or proportion; as, a bastard musket; a bastard culverin. [Obs.]

Steel made directly from cast iron, by burning out a portion of the carbon and other impurities that the latter contains, through the agency of a blast of air which is forced through the molten metal; -- so called from Sir Henry Bessemer, an English engineer, the inventor of the process.

one of the other component, or that such constituent is present in double the ordinary proportion; as, bichromate, bisulphide. Be- and di- are often used interchangeably.
BICARBONATE n.
the hydrogen of the acid is replaced by a positive element or radical, thus making the proportion of the acid to the positive or basic portion twice what it is in the normal carbonates; an acid carbonate; -- sometimes called supercarbonate.

That portion of a group of moldings which projects beyond the general surface of a panel; a bolection.
BILLON n.
An alloy of gold and silver with a large proportion of copper or other base metal, used in coinage.
BISON n.
ggy mane and short black horns, which formerly roamed in herds over most of the temperate portion of North America, but is now restricted to very limited districts in the region of the Rocky Mountains, and is rapidly decreasing in numbers.
BISULPHATE n.
the hydrogen of the acid is replaced by a positive element or radical, thus making the proportion of the acid to the positive or basic portion twice what it is in the normal sulphates; an acid sulphate.
BITE n.
A blank on the edge or corner of a page, owing to a portion of the frisket, or something else, intervening between the type and paper.
BIZET n.
The upper faceted portion of a brilliant-cut diamond, which projects from the setting and occupies the zone between the girdle and the table. See Brilliant, n.
BLANK n.
iece, without spots; as, the "double blank"; the "six blank." In blank, with an essential portion to be supplied by another; as, to make out a check in blank.
BLANKET CLAUSE n.
, rather than a number mentioned individually and having the burden, loss, or the like, apportioned among them.
BLASTOPHORE n.
That portion of the spermatospore which is not converted into spermatoblasts, but carries them.
