NEUROPORE n.
An opening at either end of the embryonic neural canal.
NEURULA n.
An embryo or certain invertebrates in the stage when the primitive band is first developed.
NOTOCHORD n.
astic cartilagelike rod which is developed beneath the medullary groove in the vertebrate embryo, and constitutes the primitive axial skeleton around which the centra of the vertebræ and the posterior part of the base of the skull are developed; the chorda dorsalis. See Illust. of Ectoderm.

extending around the end of the vertebral column, like that which is first formed in the embryo of fishes; diphycercal.

The embryonic shell, or first chamber, of ammonites and other cephalopods.
PROTOVERTEBRA n.
One of the primitive masses, or segments, into which the mesoblast of the vertebrate embryo breaks up on either side of the anterior part of the notochord; a mesoblastic, or protovertebral, somite. See Illust. of Ectoderm.
