SAPOGENIN n.
A white crystalline substance obtained by the decomposition of saponin.
SAPONIFICATION n.
act, process, or result, of soap making; conversion into soap; specifically (Chem.), the decomposition of fats and other ethereal salts by alkalies; as, the saponification of ethyl acetate.
SAPONIFY v.
hence (Chem.), to subject to any similar process, as that which ethereal salts undergo in decomposition; as, to saponify ethyl acetate.
