PORITE n.
Any coral of the genus Porites, or family Poritidæ.
PORITES n.
An important genus of reef-building corals having small twelve- rayed calicles, and a very porous coral. Some species are branched, others grow in large massive or globular forms.

The hard calcareous deposit in the tissues of Anthozoa, constituing the stony corals.

The stony corals; the Madreporaria.
SEA GINGER n.
A hydroid coral of the genus Millepora, especially M. alcicornis, of the West Indies and Florida. So called because it stings the tongue like ginger. See Illust. under Millepore.

Any bryozoan of the genus Flustra or allied genera which form frondlike corals.
SEA SCURF n.
Any bryozoan which forms rounded or irregular patches of coral on stones, seaweeds, etc.
SEA WILLOW n.
A gorgonian coral with long flexible branches.
SEPTAL a.
Of or pertaining to a septum or septa, as of a coral or a shell.
SEPTUM n.
One of the radial calcareous plates of a coral.
