PYROXANTHIN n.
A yellow crystalline hydrocardon extracted from crude wood spirit; -- called also eblanin.
PYROXENE n.
augite, etc. They are all silicates of lime and magnesia with sometimes alumina and iron. Pyroxene is an essential constituent of many rocks, especially basic igneous rocks, as basalt, gabbro, etc.

Containing pyroxene; composed chiefly of pyroxene.

A rock consisting essentially of pyroxene.

The art or practice of burning pictures on wood with a hot iron; -- called also poker painting. See Poker picture, under Poker.
ACETONE n.
volatile liquid consisting of three parts of carbon, six of hydrogen, and one of oxygen; pyroacetic spirit, -- obtained by the distillation of certain acetates, or by the destructive distillation of citric acid, starch, sugar, or gum, with quicklime.

ANDESITE n.
An eruptive rock allied to trachyte, consisting essentially of a triclinic feldspar, with pyroxene, hornblende, or hypersthene.
ASBESTUS; ASBESTOS n.
A variety of amphibole or of pyroxene, occurring in long and delicate fibers, or in fibrous masses or seams, usually of a white, gray, or green-gray color. The name is also given to a similar variety of serpentine.
AUGITE n.
A variety of pyroxene, usually of a black or dark green color, occurring in igneous rocks, such as basalt; -- also used instead of the general term pyroxene.
BABINGTONITE n.
A mineral occurring in triclinic crystals approaching pyroxene in angle, and of a greenish black color. It is a silicate of iron, manganese, and lime.
BANANA SOLUTION n.
d as a vehicle in applying bronze pigments. In addition to acetote, benzine, and a little pyroxylin, it contains amyl acetate, which gives it the odor of bananas.
