POWER n.
A machine acted upon by an animal, and serving as a motor to drive other machinery; as, a dog power.
PREATAXIC a.
ccurring before the symptom ataxia has developed; -- applied to the early symptoms of locomotor ataxia.
PRESSOR a.
o an increase of pressure; as, pressor nerve fibers, stimulation of which excites the vasomotor center, thus causing a stronger contraction of the arteries and consequently an increase of the arterial blood pressure; -- opposed to depressor. Landois & Stirling.
PSYCHOPHYSICAL a.
time (Physiol.), the time required for the mind to transform a sensory impression into a motor impulse. It is an important part of physiological or reaction time. See under Reaction.

A kind of motor speed controller permitting of very gradual variation in speed and of reverse. It is especially suitable for use with motor driven machine tools.
RING ARMATURE n.
An armature for a dynamo or motor having the conductors wound on a ring.
ROTOR n.
The rotating part of a generator or motor.
TEREBRATING a.
Boring; piercing; -- applied to certain kinds of pain, especially to those of locomotor ataxia.
TERMINAL n.
the conducting circuit of an electrical apparatus, as an inductorium, dynamo, or electric motor, usually provided with binding screws for the attachment of wires by which a current may be conveyed into or from the machine; a pole.
THIRD-RAIL SYSTEM n.
A system in which a third rail is used for carrying the current for operating the motors, the rail being insulated from the ground and the current being taken off by means of contact brushes or other devices.
TROLLEY CAR n.
A motor car to which the current is conveyed by means of a trolley.
TUNNEL STERN n.
A design of motor-boat stern, for use in shallow waters, in which the propeller is housed in a tunnel and does not extend below the greatest draft.
TURBOGENERATOR n.
An electric generator or dynamo which is combined on one frame with a turbomotor, by which it is driven.
UNDERLOAD STARTER n.
A motor starter provided with an underload switch.
UNDERLOAD SWITCH n.
