PARAGLOBULIN n.
An albuminous body in blood serum, belonging to the group of globulins. See Fibrinoplastin.
PARAPEPTONE n.
An albuminous body formed in small quantity by the peptic digestion of proteids. It can be converted into peptone by pancreatic juice, but not by gastric juice.
PARVOLIN n.
A nonoxygenous ptomaine, formed in the putrefaction of albuminous matters, especially of horseflesh and mackerel.
PEPTIC a.
Pertaining to pepsin; resembling pepsin in its power of digesting or dissolving albuminous matter; containing or yielding pepsin, or a body of like properties; as, the peptic glands.

The soluble and diffusible substance or substances into which albuminous portions of the food are transformed by the action of the gastric and pancreatic juices. Peptones are also formed from albuminous matter by the action of boiling water and boiling dilute acids.

ne of a class of animal bases or alkaloids formed in the putrefaction of various kinds of albuminous matter, and closely related to the vegetable alkaloids; a cadaveric poison. The ptomaines, as a class, have their origin in dead matter, by which they are to be distinguished from the leucomaines.
PUTREFACTION n.
The act or the process of putrefying; the offensive decay of albuminous or other matter.

An albuminoid constituent of pus, related to mucin, possibly a mixture of substances rather than a single body.
