CHRIST'S-THORN n.
One of several prickly or thorny shrubs found in Palestine, especially the Paliurus aculeatus, Zizyphus Spina-Christi, and Z. vulgaris. The last bears the fruit called jujube, and may be considered to have been the most readily obtainable for the Crown of Thorns.
CLIDASTES n.
A genus of exinct marine reptiles, allied to the Mosasaurus. See Illust. in Appendix.

The Brazilian porcupine (Cercolades, or Sphingurus, prehensiles), remarkable for its prehensile tail.

ELAPHURE n.
A species of deer (Elaphurus Davidianus) found in china. It about four feet high at the shoulder and has peculiar antlers.
