WOOLDING n. 2 definitions
The act of winding or wrapping anything with a rope, as a mast.

XEBEC n.
A small three-masted vessel, with projecting bow stern and convex decks, used in the Mediterranean for transporting merchandise, etc. It carries large square sails, or both. Xebecs were formerly armed and used by corsairs.

YARDARM n.
Either half of a square-rigged vessel's yard, from the center or mast to the end.
YAWI n.
A fore-and-aft-rigged vessel with a mainmast stepped a little farther forward than in a sloop and carrying a mainsail and jibs, with a jigger mast far aft, usually placed abaft the rudder post.
YAWL-RIGGED a.
Having two masts with fore-and-aft sails, but differing from a schooner in that the after mast is very small, and stepped as far aft as possible. See Illustration in Appendix.
