PALMATE; PALMATED a.
Having the anterior toes united by a web, as in most swimming birds; webbed. See Illust. (i) under Aves.
PALPICORN n.
One of a group of aquatic beetles (Palpicornia) having short club-shaped antennæ, and long maxillary palpi.

A graceful and swift South African antelope (Pelea capreola). The hair is woolly, and ash-gray on the back and sides. The horns are black, long, slender, straight, nearly smooth, and very sharp. Called also rheeboc, and rehboc.

The antecedent of the ferment pepsin. A substance contained in the form of granules in the peptic cells of the gastric glands. It is readily convertible into pepsin. Also called propepsin.

PHANTASMAGORIA n.
An optical effect produced by a magic lantern. The figures are painted in transparent colors, and all the rest of the glass is opaque black. The screen is between the spectators and the instrument, and the figures are often made to appear as in motion, or to merge into one another.
