One of the feeding zooids, or polyps, of a coral, hydroid, or siphonophore; a hydranth. See Illust. of Campanularian.
POLYZOON; POLYZOOEN n.
One of the individual zooids forming the compound organism of a polyzoan.

TASTER n.
One of a peculiar kind of zooids situated on the polyp-stem of certain Siphonophora. They somewhat resemble the feeding zooids, but are destitute of mouths. See Siphonophora.

The nutritive zooids of a hydroid, collectively, as distinguished from the gonosome, or reproductive zooids.

ZOANTHODEME n.
The zooids of a compound anthozoan, collectively.
ZOANTHUS n.
A genus of Actinaria, including numerous species, found mostly in tropical seas. The zooids or polyps resemble small, elongated actinias united together at their bases by fleshy stolons, and thus forming extensive groups. The tentacles are small and bright colored.
ZOOECIUM n.
