ENTOMOSTRACOUS a.
Belonging to the Entomostracans.
HYRCANIAN; HYRCAN a.
ncient country or province of Asia, southeast of the Caspian (which was also called the Hyracanian) Sea. "The Hyrcan tiger." "Hyracanian deserts." Shak.
LERNAEA n.
A Linnæan genus of parasitic Entomostraca, -- the same as the family Lernæidæ.

Belonging to the Malacostraca.
OSTRACOIDEA n.
An order of Entomostraca possessing hard bivalve shells. They are of small size, and swim freely about. [Written also Ostracoda.]

An order of Entomostraca including a large number of species, most of which live in fresh water. They have flattened or leaflike legs, often very numerous, which they use in swimming. Called also Branchiopoda.

Originally, an artificial group including many parasitic Entomostraca, together with the horseshoe crabs (Limuloidea).
RHIZOCEPHALA n.
A division of Pectostraca including saclike parasites of Crustacea. They adhere by rootlike extensions of the head. See Illusration in Appendix.
SCHIZOPODA n.
A division of shrimplike Thoracostraca in which each of the thoracic legs has a long fringed upper branch (exopodite) for swimming.
SESSILE-EYED a.
re not elevated on a stalk; -- opposed to stalk-eyed. Sessile-eyed Crustacea, the Arthrostraca.
SHRIMP n.
In a loose sense, any small crustacean, including some amphipods and even certain entomostracans; as, the fairy shrimp, and brine shrimp. See under Fairy, and Brine.
SIPHONOSTOME n.
Any parasitic entomostracan of the tribe Siphonostomata.
SNAIL n.
efoil, snail medic, and beehive. -- Snail flower (Bot.), a leguminous plant (Phaseolus Caracalla) having the keel of the carolla spirally coiled like a snail shell. -- Snail shell (Zoöl.), the shell of snail. -- Snail trefoil. (Bot.) See Snail clover, above.
TELSON n.
movable piece at the end of the abdomen of Crustacea and other articulates. See Thoracostraca.
TETRADECAPODA n.
Same as Arthrostraca.
WATER FLEA n.
Any one of numerous species of small aquatic Entomostraca belonging to the genera Cyclops, Daphnia, etc; -- so called because they swim with sudden leaps, or starts.
