PHOSPHORUS n.
peratures, giving a faint glow, -- whence its name. It always occurs compined, usually in phosphates, as in the mineral apatite, in bones, etc. It is used in the composition on the tips of friction matches, and for many other purposes. The molecule contains four atoms. Symbol P. Atomic weight 31.0.
PYROMORPHITE n.
Native lead phosphate with lead chloride, occurring in bright green and brown hexagonal crystals and also massive; -- so called because a fused globule crystallizes in cooling.
PYROPHOSPHORIC a.
which is obtained as a white crystalline substance. Its salts are obtained by heating the phosphates.
SELENIO- n.
m (also used adjectively) denoting the presence of selenium or its compounds; as, selenio-phosphate, a phosphate having selenium in place of all, or a part, of the oxygen.

occurring in emerald-green tabular crystals having a micaceous structure. It is a hydrous phosphate of uranium and copper. Called also copper uranite, and chalcolite.
TRIPHYLITE n.
A mineral of a grayish-green or bluish color, consisting of the phosphates of iron, manganese, and lithia.
TRIPLITE n.
A mineral of a dark brown color, generally with a fibrous, massive structure. It is a fluophosphate of iron and manganese.
TRIPLOIDITE n.
A manganese phosphate near triplite, but containing hydroxyl instead of fluorine.
TURQUOISE; TURQUOIS n.
A hydrous phosphate of alumina containing a little copper; calaite. It has a blue, or bluish green, color, and usually occurs in reniform masses with a botryoidal surface. [Formerly written also turcois, and turkois.]
URANITE n.
A general term for the uranium phosphates, autunite, or lime uranite, and torbernite, or copper uranite.
VARISCITE n.
An apple-green mineral occurring in reniform masses. It is a hydrous phosphate of alumina.
VIVIANITE n.
A hydrous phosphate of iron of a blue to green color, growing darker on exposure. It occurs in monoclinic crystals, also fibrous, massive, and earthy.
WAGNERITE n.
A fluophosphate of magnesia, occurring in yellowish crystals, and also in massive forms.
WAVELLITE n.
A hydrous phosphate of alumina, occurring usually in hemispherical radiated forms varying in color from white to yellow, green, or black.
XENOTIME n.
A native phosphate of yttrium occurring in yellowish-brown tetragonal crystals.
