A genus of grasses (Melica) of little agricultural importance.

Overstocked, or overgrown, or covered, with grass. [Obs.] Spenser.

A valuable pasture grass (Panicum barbinode) introduced into the Southern United States from Brazil.

Any herb of the cruciferous genus Lepidium, especially the garden peppergrass, or garden cress, Lepidium sativum; -- called also pepperwort. All the species have a pungent flavor.

A perennial grass (Agropyrum repens) having long running rootstalks, by which it spreads rapidly and pertinaciously, and so becomes a troublesome weed. Also called couch grass, quick grass, quick grass, twitch grass. See Illustration in Appendix.

The prepared fiber of the Agave Americana, or American aloe, used for cordage; -- so called from Sisal, a port in Yucatan. See Sisal hemp, under Hemp.

Quitch grass.

A plant (Orchis mascula); -- called also standerwort, and long purple. See Long purple, under Long.

A kind of grass (Phleum pratense) with long cylindrical spikes; -- called also herd's grass, in England, cat's-tail grass, and meadow cat's-tail grass. It is much prized for fodder. See Illustration in Appendix.

A tall march perennial grass (Paspalum dilatatum) of the southern United States and the American tropics.

An aquatic plant (Schollera graminea) with grassy leaves, and yellow star-shaped blossoms.
