CANNABENE n.
A colorless oil obtained from hemp dy distillation, and possessing its intoxicating properties.
CAOUTCHIN n.
An inflammable, volatile, oily, liquid hydrocarbon, obtained by the destructive distillation of caoutchouc.
CAPUT n.
of colleges. Lamb. Caput mortuum (. Etym: [L., dead head.] (Old Chem.) The residuum after distillation or sublimation; hence, worthless residue.
CEROTENE n.
A white waxy solid obtained from Chinese wax, and by the distillation of cerotin.

An oil obtained by distillation of peat, and containing various members of the pyridine series.

onic acid (Chem.), a white, crystalline, deliquescent substance, C3H4(CO2H)2, obtained by distillation of citric acid. It is a compound of the ethylene series.
COAL TAR n.
A thick, black, tarry liquid, obtained by the distillation of bituminous coal in the manufacture of illuminating gas; used for making printer's ink, black varnish, etc. It is a complex mixture from which many substances have been obtained, especially hydrocarbons of the benzene or aromatic series.
