SEA MAT n.
Any bryozoan of the genus Flustra or allied genera which form frondlike corals.
SEA MOSS n.
Any branched marine bryozoan resembling moss.
SEA SCURF n.
Any bryozoan which forms rounded or irregular patches of coral on stones, seaweeds, etc.
STATOBLAST n.
One of a peculiar kind of internal buds, or germs, produced in the interior of certain Bryozoa and sponges, especially in the fresh- water species; -- also called winter buds.
STOLON n.

One of the movable, slender, spinelike organs or parts with which certain bryozoans are furnished. They are regarded as specially modified zooids, of nearly the same nature as Avicularia.

One of the cells or tubes which inclose the feeling zooids of Bryozoa. See Illust. of Sea Moss.

One of the individual animals in a composite group, as of Anthozoa, Hydroidea, and Bryozoa; -- sometimes restricted to those individuals in which the mouth and digestive organs are not developed.

formerly adopted by many zoölogists. It included the coelenterates, echinoderms, sponges, Bryozoa, Protozoa, etc.

ants in appearance, or mode of growth, as the corals, gorgonians, sea anemones, hydroids, bryozoans, sponges, etc., especially any of those that form compound colonies having a branched or treelike form, as many corals and hydroids.
