CROSSBILL n.
allied to the finches. Their mandibles are strongly curved and cross each other; the crossbeak.

A bird, usually black, of the genus Corvus, having a strong conical beak, with projecting bristles. It has a harsh, croaking note. See Caw.

Sharp-edged and pointed; shaped like a pruning knife, as the beak of certain birds.

A genus of spinose, plectognath fishes, having the teeth of each jaw united into a single beaklike plate. They are able to inflate the body by taking in air or water, and, hence, are called globefishes, swellfishes, etc. fishes, and sea hedgehogs.

bird of the genus Phoenicopterus. The flamingoes have webbed feet, very long legs, and a beak bent down as if broken. Their color is usually red or pink. The American flamingo is P. ruber; the European is P. antiquorum.

A beak flute, an older form of the flute, played with a mouthpiece resembling a beak, and held like a flageolet.
GERANIUM n.
A genus of plants having a beaklike tours or receptacle, around which the seed capsules are arranged, and membranous projections, or stipules, at the joints. Most of the species have showy flowers and a pungent odor. Called sometimes crane's-bill.

The fleshy flap that hangs below the beak of a fowl; a wattle.
GONYDIAL a.
Pertaining to the gonys of a bird's beak.
GREENFINCH n.
A European finch (Ligurinus chloris); -- called also green bird, green linnet, green grosbeak, green olf, greeny, and peasweep.
