STRAPPING a.
rong; lusty; large; as, a strapping fellow. [Colloq.] There are five and thirty strapping officers gone. Farquhar.

An officer, or ward, having the care of the streets. [Obs.] Cowell.

The vicegerent of a prior; a claustral officer who assists the prior.

Higher in rank or office; more exalted in dignity; as, a superior officer; a superior degree of nobility.
SUPERNUMERARY a.
Exceeding the number stated or prescribed; as, a supernumerary officer in a regiment.

To displace, or set aside, and put another in place of; as, to supersede an officer.
SUPERSEDEAS n.
A writ of command to suspend the powers of an officer in certain cases, or to stay proceedings under another writ. Blackstone.
SURRENDER v.
(anything) upon compulsion or demand; as, to surrender one's person to an enemy or to an officer; to surrender a fort or a ship.
SURROGATE n.
In some States of the United States, an officer who presides over the probate of wills and testaments and yield the settlement of estates.
