IRRELATIVE a.
Not relative; without mutual relations; unconnected. -- Ir*rel"a*tive*ly, adv. Irrelative chords (Mus.), those having no common tone. -- Irrelative repetition (Biol.), the multiplication of parts that serve for a common purpose, but have no mutual dependence or connection. Owen.
ISOBAR n.
A line connecting or marking places upon the surface of the earth where height of the barometer reduced to sea level is the same either at a given time, or for a certain period (mean height), as for a year; an isopiestic line. [Written also isobare.]

A line connecting the points on the surface of the earth where a certain temperature is found at the same depth.

A line connecting points on the earth's surface having the same mean temperature in the coldest month of the year.
ISODYNAMIC a.
a similar amount of heat. -- Isodynamic lines (Magnetism), lines on the earth's surface connecting places at which the magnetic intensity is the same.
ISOGONIC a.
s. Isogonic lines (Magnetism), lines traced on the surface of the globe, or upon a chart, connecting places at which the deviation of the magnetic needle from the meridian or true north is the same.

Of or pertaining to lines connecting places on the earth's surface which have a mean annual rainfall. -- n.
ISOTHERE n.
A line connecting points on the earth's surface having the same mean summer temperature.
ISOTHERM n.
A line connecting or marking points on the earth's surface having the same temperature. This may be the temperature for a given time of observation, or the mean temperature for a year or other period. Also, a similar line based on the distribution of temperature in the ocean.

A line connecting or marking points on the earth's surface, which have the same mean summer rainfall.
ISTHMUS n.
A neck or narrow slip of land by which two continents are connected, or by which a peninsula is united to the mainland; as, the Isthmus of Panama; the Isthmus of Suez, etc. Isthmus of the fauces. (Anat.) See Fauces.
