GLACIAL a.
during which the climate of the modern temperate regions was polar, and ice covered large portions of the northern hemisphere to the mountain tops. -- Glacial theory or hypothesis. (Geol.) See Glacier theory, under Glacier.
GLADIOLUS n.
The middle portion of the sternum in some animals; the mesosternum.
GLIOMA n.
mor springing from the neuroglia or connective tissue of the brain, spinal cord, or other portions of the nervous system.
GLORIA n.
A portion of the Mass (Gloria in Excelsis Deo, Glory be to God on high), and also of the communion service in some churches. In the Episcopal Church the version in English is used.

The surface of the earth; the outer crust of the globe, or some indefinite portion of it. There was not a man to till the ground. Gen. ii. 5. The fire ran along upon the ground. Ex. ix. 23. Hence:

A portion of an ocean or sea extending into the land; a partially land-locked sea; as, the Gulf of Mexico.

A channel or hollow worn in the earth by a current of water; a short deep portion of a torrent's bed when dry.
HAGIOGRAPHA n.
The last of the three Jewish divisions of the Old Testament, or that portion not contained in the Law and the Prophets. It comprises Psalms, Proverbs, Job, Canticles, Ruth, Lamentations, Ecclesiastes, Esther, Daniel, Ezra, Nehemiah, and Chronicles.
