CHARBON n.
small black spot or mark remaining in the cavity of the corner tooth of a horse after the large spot or mark has become obliterated.

A variety of the white beet, which produces large, succulent leaves and leafstalks.

A peninsula; a tract of land nearly surrounded by water, but united to a larger tract by a neck of land or isthmus; as, the Cimbric Chersonese, or Jutland; the Tauric Chersonese, or Crimea.

A large box of wood, or other material, having, like a trunk, a lid, but no covering of skin, leather, or cloth. Heaps of money crowded in the chest. Dryden.
CHEVAL n.
A horse; hence, a support or frame. Cheval glass, a mirror swinging in a frame, and large enough to reflect the full leght figure.
CHICLE; CHICLE GUM n.
re elastic than gutta-percha, as an adulterant of which it is used in England. It is used largely in the United States in making chewing gum.
CHIMAERA n.
ginous fish of several species, belonging to the order Holocephali. The teeth are few and large. The head is furnished with appendages, and the tail terminates in a point.
CHINCHILLA n.
A small rodent (Chinchilla lanigera), of the size of a large squirrel, remarkable for its fine fur, which is very soft and of a pearly gray color. It is a native of Peru and Chili.
CHINOOK n.
A jargon of words from various languages (the largest proportion of which is from that of the Chinooks) generally understood by all the Indian tribes of the northwestern territories of the United States.

Having a large admixture of small pebbles or gravel; -- said of a soil. Gardner.

A coil of small resistance and large inductance, used in an alternating-current circuit to impede or throttle the current, or to change its phase; --called also reactance coil or reactor, these terms being now preferred in engineering usage.
