QUARTER n. 3 definitions
One of four equal parts into which anything is divided, or is regarded as divided; a fourth part or portion; as, a quarter of a dollar, of a pound, of a yard, of an hour, etc. Hence, specifically:
QUARTERED a.
Divided into four equal parts or quarters; separated into four parts or regions.
QUARTERLY adv.
quarterings; as, to bear arms quarterly; in four or more parts; -- said of a shield thus divided by lines drawn through it at right angles.
QUATERNION v.
To divide into quaternions, files, or companies. Milton.
