MELEZITOSE n.
isomeric with sucrose, extracted from the manna of the larch (Larix). [Written also melicitose.]
MELITOSE n.
A variety of sugar isomeric with sucrose, extracted from cotton seeds and from the so-called Australian manna (a secretion of certain species of Eucalyptus).
PECTOSE n.
An amorphous carbohydrate found in the vegetable kingdom, esp. in unripe fruits. It is associated with cellulose, and is converted into substances of the pectin group.
PENTOSE n.
Any of a group of sugars of the formula C5H10O5, as arabinose; -- so called from the five carbon atoms in the molecule. They are not fermented by yeast.
