BERBER n.
d as Hamitic, who were formerly the inhabitants of the whole of North Africa from the Mediterranean southward into the Sahara, and who still occupy a large part of that region; -- called also Kabyles. Also, the language spoken by this people.
BISE n.
A cold north wind which prevails on the northern coasts of the Mediterranean and in Switzerland, etc.; -- nearly the same as the mistral.
BLACK SPANISH n.
One of an old and well-known Mediterranean breed of domestic fowls with glossy black plumage, blue legs and feet, bright red comb and wattles, and white face. They are remarkable as egg layers.

cake or sausage, made of the salted roes of the mullet, much used on the coast of the Mediterranean as an incentive to drink.

The mendole; a small worthless Mediterranean fish considered poisonous by the ancients. See Mendole.
CADE n.
A species of juniper (Juniperus Oxycedrus) of Mediterranean countries. Oil of cade, a thick, black, tarry liquid, obtained by destructive distillation of the inner wood of the cade. It is used as a local application in skin diseases.

A pipe or duct used to convey hot air or steam. Subterranean caliducts have been introduced. Evelyn.

An evergreen leguminous tree (Ceratania Siliqua) found in the countries bordering the Mediterranean; the St. John's bread; -- called also carob tree.

A cave, grotto, or subterraneous place of large extent used for the burial of the dead; -- commonly in the plural.

A hollow place in the earth, either natural or artificial; a subterraneous cavity; a cavern; a den.
